Okina woman

I’ve been reading a little about Japanese theatre lately and how women are still barred from many traditional plays. Okina is a Noh play reserved for the first few days of the year and for special occasions. It’s conducted as a prayer for longevity and peace on earth. Women are considered ‘impure’ and therefore unfit to perform such a sacred ritual. Some traditions I like, some I don’t.

Here is a drawing I made of a female Japanese actor.
