From the Archives

Each weekend Studio 1482 will be featuring posts from the One Drawing A Day archives. Today’s post is by Michele Bedigian, from back in 2016. It’s titled “His First Time.”

It’s a rare opportunity that my children are around to see “Mommy’s space” and experience the model. Granted they are still toddlers but it’s always been a soul belief of mine that if they grow up with an awe and a wonder for art and its ability to express in ways words cannot they’ll grow with an advantage.

From the minute they walked in on Saturday I was shocked how comfortable they felt to explore and “try” what Mommy was doing. My little man took to Dominick’s bamboo pen pretty quickly. (That and a water bottle with a squirt top was  all he needed for a while.) Then this morning Dom shared with me a little story he found in a Saul Bass book of how he used to bring his daughter into work on Saturdays and set her up at a desk. He would come back hours later and ask her if she was ready, if she was done, as if she was in charge. I have no desire for either of the boys to follow me, but can easily see when they are working on their stuff, I know that no matter what they do in life this is something that I never had, something that connects brain cells in such different ways. It’s going to be very interesting to watch the “juniors” in the studio clan grow up, to say the least …Thank you Dom – Michele Bedigian
