The Delicate Arch

The Delicate Arch

The Delicate Arch has become the unofficial symbol of Utah, it’s that beautiful orange-red rock formation on their license plate.

I didn’t really know what to expect, and honestly I expected to be underwhelmed by another touristy landmark. Boy was I wrong. First, the 1.5 mile hike was intense, climbing nearly 500 feet. Out of breath and slightly dehydrated, once I came into view of the arch I was taken back by how “iconic” it felt. Different from all of the other arches, it even looked as if a little viewing park had been carved away for people to stop and have a long look. People do just that. Stop. Sit. Relax. And take lots of pictures…

I made a few drawings.

Greg, great way to quickly capture the feel of this and carlsbad.

What did you draw with? It seems like colored pencil but I’m not sure…

    hey Frank,
Thanks! It is colored pencil, I think. It actually may have been my son’s Crayola twist crayons. They have a much smaller tip.

    Either would work I’m sure.
