Another drawing from Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA—this one of the Union Pacific Big Boy sitting along the working rail line. It is hard to describe the mass of this locomotive. If the small engine that pulls along the excited young faces—and their even more excited guardians —aboard the short train ride makes the ground shake, I can only imagine that the Big Boy would make the entire Earth rumble. I just read on wikipedia that the behemoth got its nickname from a worker who wrote the words “Big Boy” on the front end. Proof that even the working class can make a lasting impact. —Dominick
