Papito

Papito

On my recent trip to Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, I met many wonderful people. Some were from the Urban Sketchers community; others lived in the city. Papito, above, was one of the nicest. I was drawing in his botanica in the Mercado, and he brought me a seat. So sweet! Once I finished the drawing, I waited to thank him for the chair, and he insisted that I come behind the store front to do more drawings. Then he asked the young man working for him to bring us both a coffee – dark and loaded up with sugar, Dominican style. We had a nice chat, between my ten words of Spanish and his five words of English we got along just fine. What a nice memory.
