One week after Hurricane Sandy invaded New York I took my Dalvero class down to the World Trade Center. We arrived just in time to witness a very personal small ceremony of relatives of some victims of the 9/11 attacks. People were tying yellow ribbons around the lower branches of the Callery Pear Tree that stands in the middle of the World Trade Center surrounded by numerous beautiful Oak Trees. This Callery Pear, The Survivor Tree, is replanted where it had stood for so many years in front of the Twin Towers. It was recovered a month after the attacks, barely alive, and taken and nursed back to health. It survived a storm during it’s transformation period and now has survived Hurricane Sandy as well!
Next week I’ll post another drawing of The Survivor Tree.
