Spring means lazy afternoons spent at the Bronx Botanical Gardens. Sit in the sun, paint a little, lie in the grass and sleep a little, wake up and paint some more. All the while the cherry blossom petals swirl around you. Oh yeah, I love spring. – Veronica
View post →Several years ago I had the amazing opportunity to reportage “Semana Santa”, or Holy Week, in Seville, Spain. Holy week is the last few days of Lent leading up to Easter, a very important time in the Catholic faith. In Seville it is a major event. Starting on Holy Thursday and going up until Easter […]
View post →Welcome spring! New growth, longer days, and buds on the trees. Good-bye snow, hello flip-flops! – Veronica
View post →In honor of St. Patrick’s day (tomorrow) I’ve posted a drawing of sea shanty singers that I did recently at the seaport. Sea shanties are an old sailing tradition, which of course means they’re from all over the world,  but the group sing-along has strong Irish roots! Like me : ) – Veronica

View post →This week (Tuesday) marked the end of Carnival 2010 in Venice. I love carnival and have done numerous drawings, paintings, silk designs, etc on this theme. Some of these works were exhibited at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization; most appropriately, since the history of Carnival goes back to ancient agricultural traditions. This illustration […]
View post →My book, September 11th, 2001: Words and Pictures, has just been published by vero press. The book is a first hand account, through my words and reportage drawings, of the events of September 11, 2001 and the weeks that followed in New York City. The drawing shown above is from the book, portraying police officers […]
View post →Thought I’d post a watercolor painting of a tropical village. I can’t help but think about all the beauty destroyed in Haiti, along with the loss of lives. In response to the earthquake in Haiti, myself and the other seven illustrators of Studio 1482 have each donated art to raise money on behalf of the […]
View post →This drawing is titled, “Spirit”. I created it as a tribute to the courageous spirit of the people of Haiti. I will never forget the televised images of the Haitian people walking together through the damaged streets of Port-Au-Prince, singing and clapping together. Very moving. In response to the earthquake in Haiti, myself and the […]
View post →In response to the recent terrible earthquake in Haiti, the illustrators of Studio 1482 have each created a piece of art to raise  money on behalf of the victims. It is our effort to support the international appeal for funds by CARE, a leading humanitarian relief organization. We’ve selected CARE because we believe in their […]

View post →As the days of freezing rain, slush, sleet and snow arrive in New York City, I like to console myself up with memories of warmer climes. This is my interpretation of a mango tree – the ones that hung over the back porch of Marg‘s brother Billy. Man, just reach up and grab a mango […]

View post →I went uptown last Wednesday evening to watch the blowing up of the balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. I love the surrealism of these giant cartoon characters, tied down like Gulliver while we Lilliputian citizens walk and gawk at the spectacle. Some of the characters are old friends, like Ronald McDonald; some are […]
View post →Just before Thanksgiving, and I want to give some thanks. Thanks to beautiful friends and family. Thanks to the members of Studio 1482 that I’m lucky to be a part of. Thanks to the terrific clients that I’ve had the privilege of working with. Thanks to all of the wonderful students that I’ve taught and […]
View post →Following up with my recent Halloween parade post (parade) I thought I’d put up this drawing I made of the spectators. You can see, some of the people are watching the parade, some are watching the watchers, and some are having a cocktail party on the city bench. It’s really a relaxed, easy scene – […]
View post →I went downtown to draw the Yankees Victory parade up Broadway – the “canyon of heroes” on Friday morning. It was great fun to see the players go by on the floats: Matsui was reserved and cool, Mariano Rivera was suave, Damon played the crowd and Jeter was, of course, the heart-throb. But the best […]
