Sometimes something positive comes from something negative. Along with everyone else, artists are also unable to get together…and yes, artists do get together quite often for various reasons, and one of them is to draw from the figure. Live figure drawing had been all but erased from the planet until some very industrious people decided that zoom would be the perfect software to help get artists back together drawing. I find it wonderful. While nothing can beat a live model and full three-dimensionality of the experience, “virtual” drawing has its benefits as well. For one, I now have the option to draw each day, sometimes having too many events to choose between! In addition I get to meet new people from all over the world, share my work with them, and be part of a large, international, diverse community of artists. And I can do all this without leaving home. It’s convenient when you need the convenience. And we all need convenience from time to time.
I really do hope these online sessions continue long after the virus has gone away. Thank you to all of the organizers, artists and models for making this possible, it’s really been a great escape.
