Aaahhh…..Kika the Beautiful! A wonderful model that we have been drawing for many years, incredible lady to draw and converse with while she is modeling! She’s so culturally oriented that her conversations as well as her “costumes” are pretty global and mythical. As I said, aaaaahhhhh, lovely! Thanks, Kika! Margaret Hurst

These are some drawings I made one time at the NY Aquarium. I love watching jellyfish move. When I was growing up in St. Thomas there were  some jellyfish that would show up at Magens Bay on particularly hot days, which means pretty frequently! I didn’t wish to get stung by any of them but […]

Two Commuters…Oblivious

This scene cracked me up! Two commuters, I believe they were friends, were on the bus going uptown. She was directing her conversation to him and he was plugged into his iphone, completely oblivious to her conversation! Wait, you have to be exchanging words and thoughts to be having a conversation, right? So I guess […]

Dolphin, what would you do? Another  little innocent asking mom and dad what they would do if he were a…dolphin? An answer of unconditional love. Margaret Hurst

I found another drawing of the model from a great drawing session with some of the members of studio 1482. As I always say, you can’t beat a wonderful day of drawing in a room full of positive vibes! You can give me that any day of the year!!! Cheers! Margaret Hurst

I finally tried one of those multicolored pencils to draw with. I actually enjoyed it! You never know what color is going to come out where, so it’s always a toss up, fun!  The pencil is made by KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH. And, it’s entitled, MAGIC!  Margaret Hurst

I went through some drawings that I made not too long ago and this little “jungle” drawing thumbnail appeared! It’s a jungle but not your typical jungle. I don’t remember why I made the thumbnail.  There is a polar bear on an iceberg, a frog with a large right leg, an elephant with some giraffe […]

I do believe it! I do believe it’s true! The Penguins at the Central Park Zoo are mesmerizing! They are so much fun to watch and draw. They never stay still for a moment. They’re either chatting with each other, eating, climbing out of the water, jumping into the water or swimming in the water! […]

Another drawing of the WTC Survivor Tree. Most of the ribbons had been tied on by then and now there was a large floral wreath in front of the Survivor Tree. Again, a few very unexpected and heartfelt moments in time. Margaret Hurst

A drawing of Margaret and a little boy that I made one day while we were in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Not sure how the little boy wound up in that position in the drawing: actually he was watching Marg feed the birds. Which you’re not allowed to do at Animal Kingdom, by the way. Posted […]

This is another drawing of the Callery Pear Tree, or Survivor Tree, at the World Trade Center site. So many yellow ribbons were tied to the Survivor Tree. It was a very personal moment for a small group of people; one I will never forget. Margaret Hurst

One week after Hurricane Sandy invaded New York I took my Dalvero class down to the World Trade Center. We arrived just in time to witness a very personal small ceremony of relatives of some victims of the 9/11 attacks. People were tying yellow ribbons around the lower branches of the Callery Pear Tree that […]

I sat in on one of Veronica Lawlor’s classes at Pratt Art Institute and made a couple of drawings of this great model. I used a Japanese black ink brush, which was a Pentel pocket brush pen, and my old fav stand by, Pilot Varsity fountain pen. I love the results of the combination […]

Can’t seem to get away from Prometheus! This is a drawing of a view of him from the top. I was at Rockefeller Center earlier this evening but there was no way I could even get a look at him with all the crowds! Oh well, I shall return! Margaret Hurst
