A great way to practice drawing is to draw people on the subway in NYC. Especially since I live in what’s considered the most diverse neighborhood in the city, I have a wonderful wealth of types of people to draw whenever I’m riding the train. Old people, young people, skinny, fat, happy, angry, bored – you name it. Plus every kind of ethnicity and sexual identity you could imagine. I feel very lucky in this respect! I usually have a small sketchbook and a few different materials in my bag so I can take advantage of this wealth of people around me. In this drawing I was playing with colored shapes and line, with some texture added in for interest. I could keep going on different combinations of this for a long time…well past my stop!
