Subway Drawings

The end of the holiday season and the start of the new semester is always a busy time for me – makes me miss those long warm summer days when I can go out and do a lot of drawing! But the New York City subway is always a great place to practice both my drawing and my people watching. The people above are classic New York: LOVE the hat and the profile of the gentleman at the left, (he should be in a movie by Francis Ford Coppola), and the crossed arms subway position of the woman to the right of him is one every New Yorker knows well. (There’s often a handbag inside the crossed arms.) The people drawn on the right are exhibiting two popular subway sleeping positions: the woman is doing the curled up around a side pole snooze, and the man to the right of her is letting go with the always popular full throated head back snore. Why do I love this city so much? There’s always something new to see, even on a packed train. Or especially on a packed train.
