I always tell my students to work with media that they’re not comfortable with, or don’t think they like working with. It’s in that struggle that you grow.
So for the longest time I’ve dreaded the feel of oil pastels. I don’t know why, but they never seem to work for me. I love oil painting, but there’s something about these little sticks that I can’t seem to grasp lol.
Well I decided to play around today, you know, practice what I preach, and I have to say I enjoyed it. Here is a quick study of my son. I’ve aged him quite a bit, it’s like looking a few years into the future…
