Going through my studio, I came across this little drawing I made near the Plaza Hotel about 25 years ago. In those days this is what old men looked like – you almost never see anyone wearing these kinds of hats anymore. I was also tickled to notice that the two tourists behind him were looking at a map, a pre-smart phone relic. One of the things I tell my students about reportage drawings is that they become a kind of time capsule of everyday life.
