Last Friday I left my class at Parsons and walked over to get the subway and discovered crowds of people from many different causes gathered at the front of Union Square to protest. Peacefully. It was May Day! This is the exodus of the multiple groups as they headed east and downtown after listening to many speakers talk about their various causes: fair pay to racial equality. Police officers were on the perimeter of Union Square; some on motorcycles, some standing. Those who were standing seemed to have their hands deliberately in their pockets or clasped behind their backs.
Also ran into Audrey Hawkins who was there to draw the May Day gatherings!
