The US and Cuba are on a path to restore diplomatic relations on July 20 – a historic event. On my recent trip to Cuba, I saw a lot of poverty, as in this neighborhood surrounding the house that “Papa” Ernest Hemingway lived in for years. When I talk about this, people will sometimes say to me, “Well, all that will change now that things are opening up.” For the sake of the Cubans, I hope that’s true.
