I found myself at the The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair NJ with no art supplies so I used what I had. A Bic pen and a pocket note pad from the dollar store.
I normally don’t draw with ball point pens. This particular pen had been sitting in a hot car for a few days so it had a gooey drippy ink that I had fun with while drawing the marks on the petals. Also it forced me to revisit the good old cross hatch method.
Irises are truly beautiful. Very old fashion but have a timeless lady like manner. Some of them even looked like southern belles with frilly dresses to me.
They are in peak bloom today. I recommend seeing them. ~Despina
