Just returned from a quick trip to the Dominican Republic, where I was invited to teach a three day reportage workshop by the Altos de Chavón chair of Illustration and Animation, Jonathan Schmidt. It’s so wonderful to see a former student heading the department and teaching his own group; and then, to have a chance to work with them as I did is even sweeter.
What talented and driven young artists they are! It was a pleasure to see how open and hungry they were to learn.
On my last morning in Casa de Campo, Jonathan and I stole an hour to draw on the beautiful campus. I had been eyeing this little corner for 3 days – the jumble of plant life and villas seemed to sum up the feeling of the place, and I wanted to capture that.
Gracias por todos Chavón – what a wonderful experience it was to be a part of your artistic tradition for a week!
