Last Saturday night I had one of the most incredible experiences, (it’d be selfish not to share). Chris took me to The Modern (a phenomenal restaurant in the MoMA ) for my birthday. No exaggeration, it was one of the most delicious, delightful, magnificent meal I’ve ever had, (right up there with Sierra Mar in California). If you’ve yet to go, I’m begging you to put it on your bucket list. I promise, you will not be disappointed!

Inspired by the experience (in true ash-can metropolis style) here’s a small drawing I did in the city, (my medium of choice was chalk pastel). Have a creative day, - Michele

I attempted to create the illustration under the influence of the Persian Miniatures that I had seen at the Met. Thought it might be fun to post one of them!

Mystic Patterns Stamp: A Whale’s Tale

At our Dalveromystic Exhibit we have a wall of Cinderella Stamps created for various topics the artists wished to create from their drawings and research of the C W Morgan, the last wooden whale ship in the world, at Mystic Seaport Museum. This is one of the three Cinderella stamps that I created talking about the multitude of patterns found at the Mystic Seaport.

Of course by the time I went to get a pen and paper the furry little rascal went from slowly moving about and peacefully noshing on our cilantro (time to get a garden fence!) to hopping on back to where it came from. I managed to get in two pages of quick drawings though. And I’m glad for the time I spent just watching. So no complaints little bunny. Hope to see you again soon! ~Despina

Wrigley Field

On a recent trip to Chicago, I took my family to Wrigley Field, a baseball landmark. The 98 year old ballpark is incredibly charming and the lack of modern conveniences makes it feel a bit more like what it’s supposed to be, a day at the ballgame. Some of these new stadiums make it almost nicer to walk around inside of them than enjoy the game and fresh air! Well anyway, it was raining so I didn’t have much chance to draw, but I get this pastel reportage drawing done. My son completed it with a few creative red and purple lines. A great place to check out if you’re ever in the windy city.

Soldier

I’ve always wanted to be a soldier. It’s been a desire of mine since I was a boy. I can’t say I can pin point why, but I know I would have made a great soldier. I think it takes a special heart to become a soldier. I thank every military man and woman that has served and died while I live my life. I’m privileged and proud to be an American.

This is a drawing of workers planing wood for use in the restoration of the Charles W. Morgan, the only wooden whale ship left in the world. Along with 23 other artists of Dalvero Academy, I am exhibiting art about the Morgan in the show: Restoring a Past, Charting a Future, which opened to the public yesterday at Mystic Seaport. I feel honored and excited to be a part of this project.

Dalvero Mystic Exhibit

The Dalvero Academy’s exhibit opens today at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. The name of the exhibit is, Restoring A Past, Charting A Future.

This drawing is a part of my artwork contribution to the exhibit. There are 24 artists included in the exhibit and 4 artists exhibiting single pieces of artwork. The show is incredible, the artists work is amazing and theme varied according to what they have chosen to research and illustrate about the CW Morgan, the last wooden whaling ship in the world. Congratulations to Mystic Seaport Museum and Dalvero Academy on a very informative and artistic endeavor!
