Here is a quick study I made at the end of a long day drawing in NYC. Just some people walking by as I sat down and took a break.

I used to dislike the “plumber’s nightmare” of boats and ships but recently have begun to embrace the complication by tracing the shapes not literally, but with a certain relaxed, noodly line that this drawing is a good example of. This boat caught my eye with its sinewy details and maritimey grandiosity.

I had another fun evening recently drawing Neil and his fellow Aikido practitioners at the Long Island Aikiki. It’s fun to try to capture their moves on paper and, I think, a much less strenuous way for me to participate! Posted by Veronica.

The Couple

These two roller skaters are at the CPDSA circle every time I’ve been there.  They dance alone or with other skaters, but when they dance with each other it is truly beautiful.  They glide in and out of each other; blending and parting, parting and blending.  Her knee will go up and out as he sashays back and forth.  They also make little moves with their hands occasionally.  I really fell in love with this pair of roller skaters today.  Sublime…

I had the opportunity to go out drawing in one of my favorite places last week, Bryant Park. In the summertime it overflows with life and is one of the best places for people watching. I thought it worth mentioning the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is hosting a series of exciting events associated with the United States Air Force this week from August 24th through August 29th.  The mission is to bring together the Air Force and the general public and illustrate the incredible mix of services the people of the Air Force do; to show the big picture, its mission and way of life.

This is a drawing of some ladies listening to traditional Irish love songs. Their love for the music was obvious and as a music lover myself I was touched by that, though I could not help but indulge a little in their odd shapes.

Squeezing in those last days of summer at New York’s Central Park, by the Bethesda Fountain. The angel of the fountain looms large in the hearts of New Yorkers! I was able to spend a lovely day at the park with Studio 1482′s Margaret Hurst and Liz Steel, an urban sketcher from Australia. What a beautiful day to be in the city. I love New York in August because so many people are out at the beach that there is plenty of room for those of us hanging out here. You can even get a seat on the subway! Wish it would stay that way for longer than two more weeks…and by the way, happy birthday Marg! Posted by Veronica

This is one of many  watercolor/caran d’ache/pen and ink drawings I’ve made at the CPDSA circle in Central Park.  I was sitting on the ground getting an ant’s eye view of the skaters, so I decided to make the drawing about the skates and legs of the skaters.  A little pen and ink, a little watercolor and a little caran d’ache combined to make a colorful, motion drawing of these great skaters!

Pure fun!
