Truth be told, I did this drawing in 1993 on Main Street USA in Walt Disney World. I was just 23 years old. The funny thing is in all it’s young, messy, awkward and clumsy way there are earmarks of personal character that has continued to resonate in my work since then. My teacher and mentor once told me what makes a drawing worth keeping is the value in the conversation you have with the paper…the more honesty,the more value. –  Michele

Last Saturday night I had one of the most incredible experiences, (it’d be selfish not to share). Chris took me to The Modern (a phenomenal restaurant in the MoMA ) for my birthday. No exaggeration, it was one of the most delicious, delightful, magnificent meal I’ve ever had, (right up there with Sierra Mar in California). If you’ve yet to go, I’m begging you to put it on your bucket list. I promise, you will not be disappointed!

With Occupy Wall Street (OWS) back in the media (a protest movement that began September 17, 2011 in Zuccotti Park, New York City) I thought it might be interesting to share a drawing I had done in front of City Hall a few months before the movement began.

I had such a great time at the ETSY Hands-on: drawing event last week. It was inspiring to meet so many aspiring artists eager to learn a new perspective on drawing. Here’s one of Kika in her final pose of the evening. - Michele, pen and ink

Last week I mentioned life can be crazy hectic most days here in New York City. Yet even on the run there’s always time for a quick drawing. So while riding the E train down by Canal Street last Friday, I did a small reportage of a woman reading the New York Post. (Wonder what she was reading? Maybe it was more Lin mania!) - Michele  

Life can be crazy hectic most days. (Like today when I totally forgot it was leap year and scheduled everything a day behind, yikes!) Yet even on the run there’s always time for a quick drawing. While walking Oliver in the stroller last Tuesday, I caught an opportunity to stop briefly and draw a small reportage of these two men who seemed so deep in the moment. (They never saw us coming…or going!) - Have a good one!  Michele  

 Here in New York City the winter season’s been incredibly mild. Whether good or bad in the big picture, I can bank that no one’s complaining. With spring rounding the corner there’s a certain kind of light that’s always a tip off that winter’s drifting. Inspired by it’s essence, here’s a little vision of spring as the crocuses begin to peek their way through the sleepy soil. Eddie’s post last Sunday inspired me to flip thru one of my sketchbooks from deep in the archives. What a trip! I found drawings I did my second summer on location with my teacher and mentor, the late David J. Passalaqua. Despite dating myself, this drawing was done in Disney World in 1992. (Yep, it’s 20 years old!) 

There’s something magical about looking back and seeing the dawn of where my design, lines, and graphics have grown from. Like Eddie, “I look at this drawing and I remember the smell, what I was wearing, how I felt and what I was thinking”…and for that, I’ll be forever grateful. – Michele Bedigian

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

The exercise was a tough one; pick a word and illustrate with it in mind.        I selected the word dimension.

Curious, I looked it up. According to Webster the definition of dimension was a measure in a single line, as length, breadth, height, thickness, or circumference. I wondered what would happen if I applied that concept to drawing, and interpret it’s meaning to LINE, MARKS, GRAPHICS, FEELING, even THOUGHT?

The answer was incredible.

The joy was not in the goal, but the process.

Riding into town earlier this week I got a chance to do a quick study on the subway. This woman’s energy was a little unusual and inviting to draw. With her chin up high and such an interesting portrait I couldn’t resist.
