MH_EPCOT_2WOMEN

I was looking through some of my older notebooks and I came across this drawing I made of two kinda whacky ladies at Epcot  in the Chinese Pavilion. God I love how amazing and different people can be. I really love to “people watch!” Definitely one of my favorite things to do in life!

JAPAN_TORRI_WEB

This is a tiny torri watercolor, 3.5″ X 3″, with caran d’ache accents. I painted/drew the torri at Epcot Center at Disney World in Orlando. Pretty abstract and hugely fun to paint! I highly recommend it!

KIKA_MH

Aaahhh…..Kika the Beautiful! A wonderful model that we have been drawing for many years, incredible lady to draw and converse with while she is modeling! She’s so culturally oriented that her conversations as well as her “costumes” are pretty global and mythical. As I said, aaaaahhhhh, lovely! Thanks, Kika!

Fish and Jellyfish

MH_FISH_JELLYFISH

These are some drawings I made one time at the NY Aquarium. I love watching jellyfish move. When I was growing up in St. Thomas there were  some jellyfish that would show up at Magens Bay on particularly hot days, which means pretty frequently! I didn’t wish to get stung by any of them but I couldn’t resist watching them swim around in the water. Sometimes a little one would touch my leg, but they weren’t really harmful, not like the big guys! Anyway, they were beautiful to watch as they pulsated through the beautiful blue water.

Two Commuters…Oblivious

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

MH_TWO_COMMUTERS_OBLIVIOUS

This scene cracked me up! Two commuters, I believe they were friends, were on the bus going uptown. She was directing her conversation to him and he was plugged into his iphone, completely oblivious to her conversation! Wait, you have to be exchanging words and thoughts to be having a conversation, right? So I guess this was a monologue…they were both oblivious to each other’s existence!

Dolphin, what would you do?

Another  little innocent asking mom and dad what they would do if he were a…dolphin?

An answer of unconditional love.

MH_Model_Drawing

I found another drawing of the model from a great drawing session with some of the members of studio 1482. As I always say, you can’t beat a wonderful day of drawing in a room full of positive vibes! You can give me that any day of the year!!!

Cheers!

Model_HEAD_HAND

I finally tried one of those multicolored pencils to draw with. I actually enjoyed it! You never know what color is going to come out where, so it’s always a toss up, fun!  The pencil is made by KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH. And, it’s entitled, MAGIC!

Jungle Drawing Thumbnail

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

MH_JUNGLE_DRAWING

I went through some drawings that I made not too long ago and this little “jungle” drawing thumbnail appeared! It’s a jungle but not your typical jungle. I don’t remember why I made the thumbnail.  There is a polar bear on an iceberg, a frog with a large right leg, an elephant with some giraffe patterns on it, a bird of some sort, a tree that looks like a baobab tree, some flowers… not sure what kind, many butterflies, the sun and a male and a female observing it all. Even though I don’t know why I drew it I kinda like seeing all the elements together. Oh well, such is life!

Something tells me it’s all happening at the zoo…

PENGUINS_HURST_CP_ZOO

I do believe it! I do believe it’s true! The Penguins at the Central Park Zoo are mesmerizing! They are so much fun to watch and draw. They never stay still for a moment. They’re either chatting with each other, eating, climbing out of the water, jumping into the water or swimming in the water!

Endless entertainment!

Survivor Tree with Wreath

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

SURVIVOR_TREE

Another drawing of the WTC Survivor Tree. Most of the ribbons had been tied on by then and now there was a large floral wreath in front of the Survivor Tree. Again, a few very unexpected and heartfelt moments in time.

vl_drawing-of-MargA drawing of Margaret and a little boy that I made one day while we were in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Not sure how the little boy wound up in that position in the drawing: actually he was watching Marg feed the birds. Which you’re not allowed to do at Animal Kingdom, by the way. Posted by Veronica.

CALLERY_PEAR_TREE_WTC

This is another drawing of the Callery Pear Tree, or Survivor Tree, at the World Trade Center site. So many yellow ribbons were tied to the Survivor Tree. It was a very personal moment for a small group of people; one I will never forget.

Callery Pear Tree

Callery-Pear-tree

One week after Hurricane Sandy invaded New York I took my Dalvero class down to the World Trade Center. We arrived just in time to witness a very personal small ceremony of relatives of some victims of the 9/11 attacks. People were tying yellow ribbons around the lower branches of the Callery Pear Tree that stands in the middle of the World Trade Center surrounded by numerous beautiful Oak Trees. This Callery Pear, The Survivor Tree, is replanted where it had stood for so many years in front of the Twin Towers. It was recovered a month after the attacks, barely alive, and taken and nursed back to health. It survived a storm during it’s transformation period and now has survived Hurricane Sandy as well!

Next week I’ll post another drawing of The Survivor Tree.

2 Ladies

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

These 2 ladies were having something to eat over on the West Side.  One was on her cell.  The other was watching!   Just though it would be fun to draw them!
