I’ve always wanted to be a soldier. It’s been a desire of mine since I was a boy. I can’t say I can pin point why, but I know I would have made a great soldier. I think it takes a special heart to become a soldier. I thank every military man and woman that has served and died while I live my life. I’m privileged and proud to be an American.

This is a drawing of workers planing wood for use in the restoration of the Charles W. Morgan, the only wooden whale ship left in the world. Along with 23 other artists of Dalvero Academy, I am exhibiting art about the Morgan in the show: Restoring a Past, Charting a Future, which opened to the public yesterday at Mystic Seaport. I feel honored and excited to be a part of this project.
Read more about the exhibit on Mystic Seaport’s website here.
Visit our website at www.dalveromystic.com to see more art and read about the artists.
Hope to see you at the museum!

The Dalvero Academy’s exhibit opens today at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. The name of the exhibit is, Restoring A Past, Charting A Future.
This drawing is a part of my artwork contribution to the exhibit. There are 24 artists included in the exhibit and 4 artists exhibiting single pieces of artwork. The show is incredible, the artists work is amazing and theme varied according to what they have chosen to research and illustrate about the CW Morgan, the last wooden whaling ship in the world. Congratulations to Mystic Seaport Museum and Dalvero Academy on a very informative and artistic endeavor!

Unfortunately, fans of the Chicago Cubs can chant til their voices go, and they still wont get a championship win from their beloved team. Its a curse that has outlived Boston’s curse of the bambino. These fans seemed so jaded that even when they clapped at a home run, they couldnt muster up a smile. They seemed like they have been coming to Wrigley Field since they were kids. they were fun to draw. in the rain. -Despina

A small drawing from my sketchbook while I try to figure out the feeling for a new children’s book I’m working on titled, Ichigoichie. Have an inspiring day! Michele
p.s. Ichigoichie means ‘once in a lifetime’ in Japanese for anyone who’s curious.

As the weather gets warmer, the seats in the South Street Seaport food court start filling up faster. These people were deep in conversation, completely ignoring the picture window view of the Brooklyn Bridge behind them.

I listened to some recordings of whale songs and made this drawings while I was listening to them. The whale songs are beautiful and soulful. I used these whale song drawings in my art for the Dalveromystic Exhibit which will be opening at Mystic Seaport on April 28, 2012, at Mystic, Connecticut. The exhibit is incredible!

A few thumbnails or quick drawings I did as I was working out how to illustrate a book jacket for a recent commission. The book is about the suppressed rage experienced by some members of Jewish communities. I’ll be posting the published book cover in the coming days. ~Despina

With such incredible warm weather here on the east coast, it’s hard to tell whether it’s spring or summer? In any event, it’s a real treat to toss that bulky sweater aside! – Have a great one! Michele

Going through my studio and I came across a drawing I did in Asakusa, the great temple and shopping arcade of Tokyo. What a fantastic place to draw!

…are 1 of 3 bands I went to see Tuesday night at The Bell House in Brooklyn. They were great, not much more to say! A really nice venue too.

Figure it might be fun to “hop on board” with Dom & Eddie and share a detail from a drawing for a fiber-art piece I’ve been working hard on these days. All in preparation for an exciting group show titled, Restoring a Past, Charting a Future opening in a few short weeks. - Michele
