Bike cop

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

This officer parked his bike and wrote a ticket…and luckily the ticket was not for me.

A new dawn

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Two days after the rains have passed the sun is shining, the birds singing, all thanking God. For it really could have been worse here in the city. This is a thumbnail I had done a few years back illustrating Noah’s Ark the day after the flood…figured it might be worth pulling out again. Hope all is well. – Michele

Hot Dog Vendor

Feeling mighty hungry
Feeling mighty hungry

A hot dog (frankfurter, frank, wiener, weenie) is a moist sausage of soft, even texture and flavor, often made from mechanically recovered meat or meat slurry. I live here in New York City and WISDOM tells me don’t touch those hot dogs but sometimes HUNGER gets the better of me. You would think the term “mechanically recovered meat” would be a good enough deterrent, oh well.  Eddie Peña

Skinny legs and all

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Oh to be seventeen and prematurely confident again… These young ladies are waiting for a door to open and offer them the opportunity to be seen by their idol du jour. And truth be told, they didn’t mind being sketched in this crucial prelude to their close-up, either. I do hope he blew at least one of them a kiss!

Turks & Caicos

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Just returned from a wonderful honeymoon with Neil in the Turks & Caicos islands, about one step ahead of the hurricane! Did this watercolor from the balcony of our hotel room. I tried to show the mix of island freedom and color and British regimented design that co-exists on these tiny islands. Also jotted down a couple coming up the steps from the beach to our hotel. Missing it already!!

Empires of Food

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

This is one of many illustrations I created recently for a new online journal, www.empirestudies.org, a great site featuring various intellectual writers’ dissertations, thesis and reviews on global issues and topics in the Cycle of Empire, East and West.  Professor Tom Durwood, of the Valley Forge Military College, is the editor of the site. What a joy and challenge these illustrations were! This particular illustration is about food surplus, storage and trade.

Bowery Electric

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

The Bowery Electric is a club on Manhattan’s lower east side. Last week I had a great time listening to a personal favorite, Tommy Stinson (& band). I’ll be posting more about this on my blog in a few days.

67 minutes

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Sorry about the delay in posting this morning. It was one of those mornings where I knew there was something I misplaced in my head. It wasn’t too long before I realized it was Time!!

Above is a thumbnail I recently did in preparation for a fiber art piece I’m working on. It’s for an upcoming group show at Mystic Seaport this coming spring. Will keep you posted on the progress. Enjoy the week! – Michele

The Kooks

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Brit-pop band The Kooks played a super-sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom, and I had the good fortune of being there and making tons and tons of drawings that evening. This one is of curly-haired  frontman Luke Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris. There was a lot of hair to draw that night. The full review of the show (and more drawings) are on my music blog, musikati.

Parisian Lovers

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

In honor of the fact that I am on my honeymoon right now, I thought I’d post this drawing I made of two lovers kissing behind Notre Dame in Paris.

Vive l’amour!

American Songbook

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Season after season Lincoln Center produces a fantastic series intimate performances by a huge range of these incredible artists, all singing classic American greats……  their way. It’s called American Songbook.

Here is a drawing I drew on my Playbill while enjoying one of my absolute favorite actors, Alan Cumming. Once again … beyond all expectations, loved it! ALWAYS such a treat, the talent is breathtaking.

Water Front Dream

Dreams

No harm in dreaming of looking out the window of your home to be met by a water front dream.
