Roman holiday

A Roman fantasy, I drew this in the Piazza Navona, just before enjoying some nice gelatto. I miss Rome. Posted by Veronica.

Dancer and skater…

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

So it looks like the cpdsa will be able to open it’s “doors” in Central Park this April, barely.  So if you feel so inclined, please donate whatever you can to the Central Park Dance Skaters Association.  They’ll appreciate it! Thanks!

Man reading

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Another night at Barnes and Noble. I like to end the day there and read and people watch and prep for the day ahead. Apparently, many other people do, too. Monday night was a full house. It was very tough finding a place to sit at the café, but once I did, I didn’t budge for a long while. I sipped tea, read through a few books and drew some faces. Here is a drawing of a man with neatly kept hair style and a distinctive birthmark as he was reading a magazine. -Despina

Nice Day

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

I spent the morning of February 14th (yes, Valentine’s Day) making this drawing outside of  the American Museum of Natural History in NY. It was a warm, beautiful day, the first I can remember of this year.

Eddie’s ‘Playing with Patterns’ inspires

Monday, March 7th, 2011

This past Saturday Eddie posted a study called playing with patterns that I absolutely loved. It reminded me of a watercolor series I was experimenting with years back in the Japanese gardens in Epcot.

Then influenced by the beautiful patterns presented in traditional Japanese kimono designs, it was hard for me to resist exploring what can happen when the natural patterns a garden make and the theatrical patterns a woman make merge together.

Americana

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Another drawing from my visit to Disney World, of American folk singers performing standards in the lobby of the American pavillion. I am an immigrant to this country, so this kind of stuff makes me a little emotional, and the music was also quite beautiful…

Shakespeare Garden

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

A little drawing I was inspired to do one day at the Shakespeare Garden in Central Park, New York City. It’s a lovely garden, if you haven’t been, right behind the theater where they perform the Shakespeare in the Park during the summer months.

Skaters…NOT!

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

These are two people who hang out at the cpdsa skating circle.  They are not the traditional skaters you see in the circle.  The lady on the left likes to dance, and from what I have observed she is very professional, and passionate.  The other, the gentleman on the right, is dancing, but I don’t know what he is dancing on.  They are the strangest looking “shoes” that actually look like they belong on the moon.  Good exercise anyway you slice it!

If you can help out the cpdsa they would really appreciate it, so would the NOT skaters that join in with them!
