vl_Farmers Market

Every Sunday I like to visit the Farmer’s Market and see what comes in from the farms around New York City. Lots of fresh produce, lots of freshly baked goods and lots of freshly cut flowers! Makes me feel like Eliza Doolittle when I get a big bunch of daisies to bring home to my apartment…it’s so lover-ly!  Veronica

Free Day

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Believe it or not, not much is going on in the world today by way of holidays. So, if you’re thinking of doing something special and getting worldwide recognition for it, today is a great day to do it. It’s totally open for you!

In place of the usual holiday-themed drawing, I’d like to share a drawing I made years ago of my mother’s home town in Crete.

Rock Center Café

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Another drawing from a few years back when I spent the better part of a long summer reportage-ing all around New York. Often I feel overwhelmed at Rockefeller Center, maybe because there is so much to look at, great art, architecture, tons of people, I don’t know, but on this day I was able to focus on this seasonal restaurant (it covers the ice skating rink in warmer weather) and do a pretty interesting drawing.

Sitting in the Bakery. It’s August 14, 2009 at the Magic Kingdom and I’m here drawing!

I flew home from Disney last night exhausted and missing it already.

Can it be that just two days ago I was sitting on Main Street listening to that familiar clang of the bells as the trolley strolled by, picking up the the tempting aroma of fresh baked cookies wafting through the Bakery doors while children big and small were running past me to get their autograph books signed by none other than Snow White herself?

The experience of drawing your way through Disney really is indescribable. This brief (but intense) study trip was everything I’d hoped for and more. The Magic Kingdom has always been a home away from home and it was incredible to be back.  I’m looking forward to sharing more from the trip – once I get a chance to unpack all the pixie dust that is. Until then take the time to dream a little dream Michele

Just figured it was a good day for a song. Something traditional. A classic. Easily sung along with. Happy Saturday everybody.

Drawing from the Dinosaur section of the museum.

The American Museum of Natural History, one of my  favorite places to go and disappear.  It is a world of fun and adventure, where the past is brought to life and the present is magnified.  If you have not gone, GO!

Walking through the second floor of the Met Museum in NYC

kn_009

I love browsing through museums, and taking emotional notes with either my brain or my pen (or, as in this case, with pencil and crayon)

I had to post another drawing of these dudes. They are too cool. And such a part of summer in the East Village. That’s why I love my neighborhood – it hasn’t lost it’s personality over the years. Great stuff. Think I’ll have some fish for dinner tonight…I usually cast my line at the Associated Market though! – Veronica
